Committee to take step after the five refused to accept invitations to provide voluntary assistance to investigation, sources say

The House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol is expected to issue unprecedented subpoenas to five Republican members of Congress to compel their cooperation with the inquiry, according to two sources familiar with the matter.

The select committee empowered the panel’s chairman, congressman Bennie Thompson, to move ahead with subpoenas to House minority leader Kevin McCarthy and other Republicans including Jim Jordan, Scott Perry, and Andy Biggs and Mo Brooks, the sources said.
