Cannot Add Batteries to Existing Solar System – SunRun [NJ]

We had solar panels installed about 8 years ago by SunRun. No issues. For a while now (at least 2 years) they’ve been installing solar systems with batteries. Unfortunately, at least in New Jersey, they do not install batteries for existing systems, only with new systems, and if you have a third party add batteries it will void the warranty. I call them every 2-3 months for an update, and the reply is always “we’re assessing that option”. I really want to add batteries, but if I have a third party company do it, and the solar system stops working, I know they’ll just say it’s not their problem. The goal is storage and, obviously, to be able to use my solar panels during a power outage. Has anyone had to deal with this kind of situation? Any advice on how to proceed/other options?
