Breaker Backfed vs. Before the disconnect on solar ready panel with Enphase.

I had solar installed last year and am about to do a panel upgrade 125A to 200A. I did solar first because I have underground service, the utility was EXTREMELY backed up on service upgrades, and I didn’t want to wait.

I have 7.2kw Enphase system with an IQ4 combiner backfed into the main panel. I will be upgrading to a 200A solar-ready panel (225A busbar).

The Solar company will NOT be performing the upgrade because they were a disaster to work with and I need to ensure this is done right and on time.

  • What are the advantages to connecting before the disconnect vs. backfed, if any? Should I insist on reconfiguring it to before the disconnect?
  • How would this upgrade affect consumption monitoring?
  • Anything else I should look our for in this process?
