Tesla laid off about 200 workers in California who were working on the electric-vehicle company’s Autopilot project, which aims to develop self-driving cars. Tesla (ticker: TSLA) is scaling down its facility in San Mateo that was evaluating customer vehicle data on driver-assisted features, according to a Bloomberg report that cited unidentified sources. Many of those laid off were hourly workers, which is surprising because Chief Executive Elon Musk had announced plans to cut 10% of the company’s workers on salary.
