Professional panel install and diy battery install?

Advertisements

I recently learned about Signature Solar’s rack mounted batteries. They are less than 1/3 the cost of a regular home battery that would be installed by a professional company, and the DIY setup looks super easy. 30kWh for a similar price as a single Enphase IQ 10 unit.

So now I want to just get panels installed by a company and add in my own battery set + inverter, hook that part up myself, and hire an electrician to just merge the battery inverter with the grid-tied solar inverter to form an AC coupled system.

This sounds easy in my head. Are there any obvious reasons this would be bad? I would assume that I’d still get the US federal rebate on the storage part. And what questions should I ask of the solar installer? Thanks!

EDIT: Also, is it dumb to order all the parts myself (say with an unbound solar package) and have a separate team install it? I imagine the biggest issue would be all the warranties are different. I’d have to provide the labor to take down any panels or whatever that needed replacement under warranty. Is that all?
