Bought house with roof that needs replacing within 3 years. Solar panels are in good condition. Should I completely remove panels or pay to reinstall?

Hello,

As the title says, I recently bought a house with solar panels installed in 2017 which were also fully paid for by the previous owners. I had the roof inspected by three different roofers and they all said it’s going to need replacement within three years at most.

Now leaving aside the foolishness on my part on not inquiring the age of the roof ( even though the house was inspected and the inspector said it was in good condition), I’m trying to gauge whether it even makes sense financially to pay to replace and reinstall the panels when it comes time to replace the roof. Or if I should just pay for them to remove it and not replace.

I’m afraid the total cost of this one job may exceed the lifetime savings provided by the panels.

My current monthly electricity is about $60-80 for the whole house. Our neighbors with similar sized houses and no solar panels pay about $200-250.

We were quoted $30K by one company to do everything together which sounds extreme to me, and I have yet to contact the company that installed the panels to see if they can do it .

Any advice would be appreciated!
