After Beyoncé lost Album of the Year to Harry Styles during the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, the BeyHive reacted on social media.
The BeyHive read the 2023 Grammys for shame after Beyoncé lost Album of the Year to Harry Styles. The awards ceremony concluded on Sunday night (February 5), with host Trevor Noah reading the 10-album nominations for Album of the Year, which included Beyoncé’s Renaissance, Mary J. Blige‘s Good Morning Gorgeous (Deluxe), Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers and Lizzo‘s Special.
While Bey fans were pulling for the singer to win her first AOY trophy, the most-awarded Grammy recipient lost to Styles’ third album, Harry’s House.

“This is really really kind… this doesn’t happen to people like me very often, and this is so nice, thank you very much,” Styles, 29, said in his speech.
While Bey applauded for the former One Direction member, the BeyHive blasted the Recording Academy for alleged racism, as the Renaissance singer has been nominated for AOTY four times in total. In 2010, her third solo album I Am… Sasha Fierce lost to Taylor Swift’s Fearless; in 2015, Bey’s eponymous album lost to Beck’s Morning Phase; in 2017, Bey’s Lemonade lost to Adele’s 25. In a tearful acceptance speech that year, Adele acknowledged that Lemonade should have taken home AOTY.
Following the snub, a report from Variety circulated, with anonymous Grammy voters explaining their intentional slight towards Bey.
“With Beyoncé, the fact that every time she does something new, it’s a big event and everyone’s supposed to quake in their shoes — it’s a little too portentous,” one voter stated.
Despite losing AOTY, Bey won four Grammys last night; Best R&B Song (“Cuff It”), Best Traditional R&B Performance (“Plastic Off the Sofa”), Best Dance/Electronic Recording (“Break My Soul”), and became the first Black woman to win Best Dance/Electronic Album (Renaissance).

Read more reactions below.
i saw two grammy voters quoted in that variety article who said they didn’t vote for beyoncé because she always wins and every time she does something new “it’s a big event” and it really pisses me off. people just don’t like seeing Black women win “too much.” it’s nasty.

beyonce has more grammys than anyone in the history of the world but also she does not have one single album of the year award sure sure sure that makes sense that sounds right

i did love Harry’s House but i’m sorry, the only other acceptable winner for album of the year besides Beyoncé’s Renaissance was Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti. that album and tour broke every record possible!!!! i just

There is something infuriatingly racist about the vast majority of Beyoncé’s #grammys being in R&B categories while having 4 nominations for AOTY and winning 0 times. ZERO. Meanwhile, artists like Taylor Swift has THREE under her belt.
Good night.

You can be the most decorated artist in the world and institutions will go out of their way or hell even against their self interest to humble you. That’s how much this world hates black women.

Beyoncé isn’t just an incredible vocalist and live performer but a true musical visionary. To conceive something like Renaissance, assemble the necessary creative talent to birth it, and craft something that felt uniquely her own… *THAT* is a true Album of the Year

And to the black people kiiking and cheering cos Beyoncé “lost” Album of the year, I want y’all to have a think about the fact that a black woman hasn’t won that award since 1999.
You may or may not care. You may say we are playing the race and gender card, but sit with it. pic.twitter.com/e4Lg9TOgfY

nothing about harry’s music is new, interesting, unique, thought provoking, fresh, or revolutionary. it’s not telling complex stories, highlighting culture, anything. it’s generic, boring music. i’m not scared to say it.

Ayo thank you @Beyonce. Thank you to everyone who worked on RENAISSANCE. Y’all created literal worlds. And all of us around the world get to benefit from it. Forever.
THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR.

“This doesn’t happen to people like me often” – @Harry_Styles. We beg to differ, Harry. Mediocre white men get glamourized, rewarded and awarded over exceptionally talented, amazing Black women like @Beyonce all day, every day. Case in point is this AOTY win. #GRAMMYs
