Solar contractor left solar panels exposed to elements for 6 months, is this ok?

Last October, I had my roof replaced and my solar panels were taken off by the contractor chosen by my solar provider, Sun Run. The plan was for the panels to be reinstalled once the roof work was completed, but due to technical delays, weather delays, and poor planning by the solar contractor, the panels have still not been installed. What’s even more concerning is that most of the panels were stored upside down and exposed to harsh winter conditions in the mountains, with ice freezing and thawing multiple times. When there’s no ice, stagnant water may have corroded the electrical components or penetrated seals.

I have expressed my concerns to both Sun Run and the solar contractor (NovaSource), but they have assured me that it shouldn’t be an issue and that the panels would be replaced if they are found to be broken during the solar lease period, which is 8 years away. However, I am worried that storing the panels in such conditions may have compromised their lifespan and that they may fail after they are finally paid off. I am also concerned that the installer may not disclose any potential issues, and I am frustrated with the lengthy delay in reinstallation.

Sun Run has provided some small bill credits, but they are not enough to cover the energy that we would have been able to generate and bank this year to offset later months’ AC usage. Additionally, the panels are taking up significant deck space, limiting our usage.

Are the panels likely to have been compromised in some way and what should do about it?
