Bengal panchayat polls: BJP, Congress cite ‘TMC pressure’

Around 4,800 candidates – 1,500 of them from BJP and 1,107 of Trinamool Congress – backed down from contesting panchayat elections in West Bengal on the last day for withdrawal of nominations, with many of them citing “pressure” to pull out of the July 8 vote.
