’02 riots: Guj revokes security of witnesses, former judge

Gujarat government withdraws police protection from witnesses, lawyers, and a retired judge who were involved in the 2002 riots. The SC-appointed SIT had formed a special cell for witness protection in nine cases, including the Godhra train carnage and subsequent massacres. Former judge Jyotsna Yagnik, who convicted 32 accused in the Naroda Patia case, is among those who lost protection. Witnesses express concerns about their safety and question the decision to remove police protection.
