Marriott Bonvoy and United MileagePlus have a partnership, offering some reciprocal perks and opportunities. The two programs have just announced the details of a new promotion intended specifically for top tier members, and it could prove valuable for eligible members.
Marriott & United offer Suite Night Awards & PlusPoints
A new promotion has just been launched for Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador members and United MileagePlus Premier 1K members, for eligible activity between January 1 and March 31, 2024:
- Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador members who spend $4,000 on United flights during the promotion period will earn 40 PlusPoints
- United MileagePlus Premier 1K members who spend $3,000 at Marriott properties during the promotion period will earn three Suite Night Awards
In order to participate, you must be enrolled in the partnership between the two programs. Marriott Bonvoy members can sign-up here, and United MileagePlus members can sign-up here. However, there’s no need to register specifically for the promotion beyond that, as registered members are automatically eligible.
All activity must occur within the promotion period, and it’s fine if travel was previously booked. Also note that for flights, the travel must be on United and United Express, as flights on partner airlines don’t qualify.
My take on this Marriott & United promotion
It’s nice to see the increased partnership between Marriott and United. In late 2023, we saw the two programs offering a dual accrual promotion, and now we’re seeing a promotion targeted specifically at the highest tier elite members.
I wouldn’t say this promotion is any reason to totally change your behavior, but there’s potentially value to be had here:
- Three Marriott Bonvoy Suite Night Awards will let you request a suite upgrade prior to arrival for a total of three nights
- 40 United MileagePlus PlusPoints can be used in a variety of ways, including for a one-way upgrade to business class on a long haul flight, or for two upgrades to first class on short haul flights
So if you happen to be loyal to both Marriott and United, then this promotion is awesome, as you’re getting something extra for (potentially) nothing.
Bottom line
Marriott Bonvoy and United MileagePlus have a new promotion for Ambassador and Premier 1K members. Marriott Ambassador members can earn up to 40 PlusPoints with United, while United Premier 1K members can earn up to three Suite Night Awards with Marriott.
