Help me understand San Diego SDGE residential solar NEM system

Advertisements

First of all, fuck SDGE. With that out of the way, can anyone help me understand this purposely convoluted and confusing system? I currently have a NEM credit of $750. My current NEM charges are $164. My true-up is in 3 months, after which all credits will be reset back to $0.

Is there anything else I can do to use these credits? Can these be applied to my normal monthly bill? Is my solar generation even being applied to my monthly bill, or is it being wasted on these credits that are going to be tossed in a few months?

On the SDGE site, it states:

“As a residential NEM customer, you can pay your bill in full each month, but you also have the option to pay your bill only in part, as long as you pay off your balance by your annual anniversary date”.

Should I just be paying $0.01 on my normal monthly bills, then wait until the NEM anniversary date in a few months to pay the accumulated monthly bills with NEM credits? Wouldn’t that incur late fees or risk of them canceling service? Someone help me understand this shit!
