I’m getting ready to install solar on the roof of my shop. I have six bids from four companies (one person bid three different system sizes). I figured $/kWh to try to compare systems that range from 17880 to 11778 kWh. The $/kWh after incentives and tax rebate range from 1.06 to 0.89. Somehow these companies have all estimated my annual usage differently, and the outfit that bid three different sizes has a higher $/kWh for the larger systems.
Only one outfit is suggesting using a single phase inverter with power optimizer, Solar Edge brand. They tell me that because my shop is in the middle of a field with the roof pitch oriented south, no shade, and no risk of leaf/debris accumulation this is an ideal application of a single inverter, and it will be more efficient than micro inverters while also saving money on install. Is this right? If it’s relevant, their panels are REC N-Peak 2 Black Series.
I like these folks, they are the closest to me and I appreciated that the salesman who visited seemed knowledgeable about solar system design. But they’re the only one going this route so I want to be sure that they’re actually being savvy with this design recommendation and not cutting a corner.
Thanks!
