Grid tie inverter with larger operating range? Keep getting Grid Fault error. (San Diego)

Advertisements

I have a Sunny Boy inverter that’s about 7 years old. I’m in direct Sun with 0 shade. I bought my system outright from SunPower, so I have no generation guarantee. I’m in San Diego, and every year during the brightest sunniest days SDG&E lowers the grid voltage to prevent brownouts or something which causes a grid fault at the inverter which stops my inverter from putting power on the grid – essentially making my panels 100% useless. (Like everyone here, I bought solar so I wouldn’t have to use power and they’ve found a way to knock off my generation forcing me to use their grid power.)

Are any of you aware of an inverter with a lower operating range or a variable range that won’t get knocked off when SDG&E pulls their grid trickery?

Is there a setting I can ask Sun Power to adjust on my inverter before it goes out of its 10 year warranty?

Can any of you think of any recourse I may have in this situation?

Does this happen to anyone else in SD? or is it possible my Inverter is as fault?
