I’ve got a 22 yr old concrete tile roof, and the installers I’ve spoken to seem to be very okay to work with it (for an additional cost based on watt’s (7c/watt) which is a funny way to calculate it). It’s rated for 50 years, so it would be ideal and possibly more cost effective to keep it.
If I replace the concrete tiles, I would only do it on the side of the roof that would have the solar install, most quotes are around $10k to replace that area with asphalt shingles.
I got one quote for R&R of panels for the eventuality of needing to redo the roof before 50 years if there is a premature failure, and they said it would be $350 per panel. Multiply by 28-30 panels….and it’s about $10k just for that.
Is $350 per panel to R&R okay? It seems incredibly excessive to me.
For most of the earlier quotes I got, I was intent on just replacing the roof, so I don’t have numbers for the cost to install on a concrete tile roof from them, nor for the R&R cost, so unfortunately I don’t have additional data points, and I’m hoping with info from the community I can decide on which strategy to go for to simplify quotes and conversations with other companies.
Edit: In SF Bay Area, so high COL
