I’m getting solar installed! It’s a grid-tied system with Enphase IQ8Ms and 400W panels.
I need to upgrade my main panel as part of my solar install, and am trying to make sure we are being future-friendly when possible/reasonable.
Our current system will not have any batteries because they don’t seem worth it with NEM 2.0, but I’d like to avoid having to do a ton of extra work to add a bidirectional EV charger in the future.
Questions:
- Should I specify a “generator-ready” Load Center for our main panel upgrade?
- Would that eliminate the need for a separate backup load panel in the future?
- Is it worth adding a System Controller and Load Controller now, without a battery?
- How much should I expect that to cost?
- Would those even be compatible with a generator-ready load center, or would I still need a separate backup load panel?
- Is there anything else I should make sure is in our quote?
