I was considering getting a 6.4 kw system without battery (because they are crazy expensive). However, given how little PG&E pays for surplus, I’d essentially have to try and use up all that power as I generate it or essentially just give it to PG&E for pennies. Even if I tried to frontload all my energy usage during the daytime, I’m not even sure how much I’d realistically wind up using.
Am I thinking about this the wrong way or is it pretty much a known thing that if your electric company doesn’t pay much for surplus, you need a battery to make it worthwhile?
