Hey everyone, we are in the process of getting Solar panels. We are in Dallas Texas
I have been racking my brain and going back and forth between going with Tesla vs a local company.
I know everyone hates Tesla with a passion but I’ve been on the Tesla Solar forums and there seems to be some happy people recently if you know what to expect and how to guide the installers a bit.
My biggest worry with a local company is that they will sell or go bankrupt way sooner than Tesla. These are mostly unheard of companies.
Please help me decide!
I’ve narrowed my quotes down to Tesla and a local company, Texas Solar Professionals out of Cedar Hill Texas (found them on Energy Sage)
We have a 4500 sq foot home and use about 2-3000 kw of power a month, and probably closer to 4000 kw during July and Aug. Have a Model Y right now, and may get another EV in the future.
Tesla Pricing: 21.46 kW system $47,867
2 Powerwall’s is an additional $17,300 plus another $1000 off if I get them installed by October. ( I think powerwall 3 is coming out and they want to get the old ones out?)
Texas Solar Professionals: 21.8 kW system REC 420 Alpha pure panels with microinverters $48,000 (No battery option)
I know the local installer was able to match Tesla pricing on the panels but they don’t have any battery options. We get a lot of storms in Texas and the power does go out more than we like. We don’t want to put a whole house generator (it’s $15,000 here and is loud and still needs maintenance)
Also, is this too good to be true that local guy is able to match REC panels and microinverters for same price as Tesla, they may be a bait and switch company?
We are still leaning towards Tesla bc of the battery option, and they still are a big name and should be around in 10-15 years, and their installs in DFW have been decent from what I’m hearing.
But if anyone has dealt with Texas Solar Professionals before and think I should take a chance with them and just forgo the battery?
Thanks for any help!
